Fitness blog, that hopefully won't fail like my last one since I've got a buddy this time. I run year round and love it. I've got mild scoliosis and have to do pilates to strengthen my back. My home is filled with athletes. But basically, want to make myself proud by eating healthy and being strong.
I may gain weight, I may lose it. But either way I care about the mirror, not the scale.

The Alison McWeeny Story

She lost a leg in a boating accident on a July 4th vacation trip with friends. Her leg was amputated below the knee. That’s bad enough, but before the accident she was a competitive powerlifter.

Most people will try to find any reason to stop pursuing their goals. They have the case of the “I don’t wannas” or “There’s not enough time” or even “It’s too hard”.

Do you think Alison ever gives those kind of excuses?

Don’t let any obstacle stop you from doing what you love or achieving your goals. You have to break down those barriers and overcome the adversity placed before you. You are as tough as you allow yourself to be.

This is motivation. This is Alison McWeeny’s story.

Holy shit. So inspiring.

Incredible.

The awkward moment when even after asking him not to, my friend tells me the exact   immense amount of calories that are in my unhealthy restaurant meal.

The awkward moment when I have to explain to him that I have an unhealthy history with counting calories (which is why I don’t anymore) and I still have problems sometimes with eating things because of it.

I know he didn’t mean it, and he said he felt bad, but it’s just awkward because I don’t really share my problems with food much. I mean, I kept it subtle and played it off, but it is still something that affects me today. Maybe I should just come to terms with it.

All calories are NOT created equal.
You’ve heard “a calorie is a calorie,” meaning your body processes them all the same way regardless of where they come from. But not so fast: 100 calories of chocolate cake are not the same as 100 calories of carrots. As it turns out, your body burns nearly 50% more calories after eating a meal packed with whole foods versus an equivalent meal made of processed fare, according to a 2010 study published in the health journal Food & Nutrition Research.
During manufacturing, processed foods are broken down and stripped of many nutrients, making it easier for the body to digest them. On the other hand, whole foods, such as multigrain bread, apples or zucchini, contain good-for-you nutrients like fiber that the body has to work overtime to break down, temporarily boosting metabolism. Plus, “eating smarter calories via foods packed with filling fiber or satisfying protein, like a chicken breast instead of potato chips, will help you naturally eat less over time.”
